Most of Moldova's population is Orthodox Christians. The Orthodox Church represents more then 96 % of orthodox Christian’s population of the country. Christians of Moldova has totally about 1035 churches, 35 monasteries and 7 skitoves. Totally, the number of its attendants is about 5000 people: priests, clerks, trustees.

The leader of Orthodox Church in Moldova is Metropolitan of Chisinau and of the whole Moldova - Eminence Vladimir - head Mitropolii of Moldova (website of Metropolia). The Mitropolia of Moldova includes four dioceses: Chisinau, Cahul and Lapushna, Bricheni, Dubassari and Tiraspol - on the left protect river Dnestr, and also operating vikariat in the north of Republic Moldova in the city Beltsy. The religious personnel is mainly trained within the Chisinau Theological Academy, Theological Seminary (“Noul Neamt Monastery”, in Chitcani), the Spiritual Lyceum for girls (Suruceni Monastery), the Spiritual Lyceum for boys (“Nasterea Domnului” Monastery, in Zabriceni).

Other religious denominations in Moldova are the Armenian Apostolic Church, Seventh-Day Adventists, Baptists, Pentecostals, and Molokans (a Russian Orthodox sect).

The Constitution of the Republic of Moldova guarantees the religious freedom of its citizens (art. 31). Each citizen has the right to share any religion, individually or in group, to spread this faith, to exercise their cult either in a private or public, as long as it does not contradict the Constitution and the law in force.
